Westmalle Trappist Extra

Westmalle Extra Trappist beer may well have a low alcohol content of 4.8%: it has a surprisingly full-bodied flavour. This golden blond Trappist beer has a very refreshing and thirst-quenching character. With its fruity notes and rich aromas, the Extra stands for a taste experience that is truly Westmalle.

True to our brewing philosophy, the Extra is brewed with the purest ingredients: selected barley varieties, a balanced blend of hop flowers, home-grown yeast and pure water from the deep Diestian layer. And just as with our Dubbel and Tripel, it is a top-fermented beer, including the typical fermentation in the bottle.

Did you know that the Westmalle Extra Trappist beer is one of the oldest Westmalle beers? What’s more, it is part of a long tradition that is as old as the brewery itself. Let’s go back in time to 1836. That was the year the Trappists of Westmalle decided to brew their own beer.

They needed their own local drink to be consumed during meals. In our part of the world, it was only logical that this would be beer. All this in line with the monastic Rule of Saint Benedict, which serves as the Trappist’s guiding principle.
