Orval is a Trappist beer produced in the brewery of the Notre-Dame d’Orval abbey in (Belgium). The label depicts a trout with a gold ring in its mouth, illustrating the legend of the abbey’s foundation. According to legend, Countess Matilda dropped her gold ring with three diamonds into the lake, but a trout found it and returned it to its owner. As a token of gratitude, the Countess founded an abbey on this site.
The beer has an amber-orange color, has an aroma of orange peel, tea, peanuts, vinegar and cream; with strong hop bitterness, mild taste and very long aftertaste of bitter orange and cream.
